Grease is usually staged as nostalgia: fun and consequence-free. This production returned to the original Grease, rooted in a Chicago high school — grittier, more rebellious, and centered on teens trying to escape the shadows of their 1950s parents while being pressured to remain in that world.

Our characters weren't just facing graduation; they were facing the last year of the '50s. That tension gave rise to the central question driving this production: Who are our characters expected to be, and who do they secretly wish they could become?

The production opened as a reunion — the audience arriving as fellow alumni of the Rydell Class of '59, the memories coming alive in the room around them.

Each character navigated four competing selves — private, public, aspirational, and imposed — and the show's conflict lived in the friction between those worlds.
